Well, this is interesting timing.

I recently wrote about how the Oscars have been optimizing the same show for decades without questioning the underlying premise.

And then this dropped: starting in 2029, the ceremony is moving out of the Dolby Theatre — and off of ABC — landing at the Peacock Theater and on YouTube.

The venue change is fine. But the network change? That's the real signal. ABC is legacy television. YouTube is where the audience actually is. That's not a remodel. That might actually be a foundation decision.

Maybe the harder question got asked after all. Or maybe it's still just a nicer set.

The caveat: they're locked at Dolby through 2028. So we've got five more years of the same stage before any of this matters.
